Covid – 19 Safety Measures
At Park we had about 45 children of keyworkers in attendance throughout the lock-down period. We opened fully for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on the 1st June and from 15 June 2020 School was open to all pupils who wished to return.
The School Team worked incredibly hard to ensure a swift return to full time education in School following the lifting of Government restrictions. Have a look at what we have been up to in our video below:
We planned and prepared across the whole School site, turning the Art room, Music room, ICT suite and even the Admin offices into fully set up teaching-pod classrooms. We moved desks and purchased new furniture, mini-marquees appeared in the playground along with new loos! New IT resources and projectors were installed to ensure that every Park School teaching “pod” of 15 children had its own “teaching zone” and all the equipment needed.
Staff agreed to change and/or increase their working hours to support all the pods and through this huge team effort we were able to cater for all pupils. Almost 90% of pupils came back to School full-time for the four weeks before the end of the Summer term.
Lunch-time became a finely tuned exercise in hot meal “take-aways”. All meals were cooked by our in-house Chef and his team and then delivered to the pods in take-away containers to eat in their teaching zones.
Pupils and parents quickly learned to observe the new protocols and to social distance at drop-off and pick-up times. The process of seeing almost 300 pupils in and out of School each day came down to around 30 minutes in total with each Year group working to a tight time slot! In addition Nursery was operating at near-normal capacity by the end of June and our Nursery pupils have quickly learned the new rules.
We continue to support the pupils learning at home (due to family circumstances or shielding) with Teams chats, online learning resources and teacher contact to keep them “on track”.
Lock-down seems to have passed so quickly to those of us who have worked in School throughout. We have learnt so much; new IT skills, new ways of teaching as well as video editing and remote marking; adapting our teamwork; developing our resilience.
As a School we are so proud of our pupils, parents and staff. The wonderful, vibrant community that is Park School has shone through these challenging times. Now we can look forward to continuing to learn and grow together. September 1st, here we come!!
